Official HTC bootloader unlocking tool now working early on the HTC EVO 3D?
Along with the EVO 3D update today to software version 2.08.651.2 came a promise from HTC. Namely, the phone should now be prepared for the company's official bootloader unlocking tool, to be released for the device later in September.
Well, the wait seems like it might be over a bit earlier than expected. Some G&E readers are reporting that HTC's unlocking process, detailed above, is now working on the EVO 3D, even though the only device that's currently officially supported is the unbranded HTC Sensation.
Of course, when you start the unlocking process you are warned that you may be voiding all or part of your warranty, depending on what you do with your phone after the bootloader is unlocked. Additionally, "[t]o prevent unauthorized access to your data, unlocking the bootloader will delete all personal data from your device including applications, text messages and personalized settings."
I've already rooted my EVO 3D with Revolutionary, so I can't really try this out myself. But if you are in the mood and don't mind wiping all the data from your phone in the process, give this a try and let us know in the comments if it works for you … at least until HTC sees this and corrects their oversight.
