Apple’s 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro struts its stuff in GeekBench benchmarks – again

mbp - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here

Remember that 13-inch Retina MacBook Pro leak from last month? Of course you do. Well, the yet-to-be-released Mac has shown up in some GeekBench benchmarks once again. This time, however, it’s running a pre-release seed of Mountain Lion 10.8.1 – meaning that this model is being tested right now by Apple.

It’s a custom build of the first update to Mountain Lion, lending credence to the fact that this is indeed a legitimate GeekBench entry, not to mention that it’s likely the actual MacBook Pro itself. It also has the same specs as the previous leak, but this one does include 8GB of RAM, just like the current top-of-the-line 13-inch MacBook Pro.

As Mac Rumors points out, GeekBench has been a relatively accurate source of information for Mac releases. Obviously nothing is official from Apple just yet, but a 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display will most definitely be released soon. In fact, there is even a possibility that we could see a 13-inch Retina model at Apple’s fall event, even if it’s only a very slight chance.

Hopefully we’ll find out soon enough when the rest of Apple’s laptop lineup will get Retina-branded displays.
