BAKED brings BlackBean Jelly Bean ROM to the HTC EVO 4G

2012 08 17 13.23.49 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag hereBlackBean is an AOSP custom ROM that has been compiled for the original HTC EVO 4G based on the Android Jelly Bean OS that Google recently released, with some CyanogenMod and Android Open Kang Project features thrown in.

It features Awesome BEATS, which brings Beats Audio to AOSP; Powerwidgets and AOKP toggles; inverted or regular Google apps; a fully customized MMS application; Sprint’s Visual Voicemail; Google Now; and a lot of other neat CM/AOKP additions.

There are two versions of this done by the same person: one is the official port, and one is unofficial. The features listed above are from the unofficial build and are not listed in the official builds. It also appears the unofficial port uses A2SD to add more operating memory.

It lists that the camera is not working and that the MMS is untested. Unfortunately, my old EVO 4G has no service so I can’t confirm the MMS works or doesn’t.

Oddly, it has 4G listed as an option in the menus. Not having service, I can’t say for sure that it doesn’t work, but if that managed to get up and working on Jelly Bean on the EVO, I would be surprised.

It’s a pretty nifty little ROM; most things seem to work, and it’s quite responsive for what I’ve done with it (with not having service, I can’t claim is a whole lot).

Other threads are reporting that the camera is now working in other JB ROM sources, so we may see a build of this out in the next day or two with working camera – but for now, no.

It’s a pretty neat ROM with lots of things that are different that I didn’t expect – well worth a look when they get the camera for a potential daily driver candidate!
