HMDX unveils the JAM Splash and the Roam at CES

2013 01 08 14.48.09 - for some reason we don't have an alt tag hereThe JAM Splash and HMDX Roam are two new products announced at CES that are pretty interesting additions to the HMDX wireless speaker lineup.

In the past, with other products in this audio line up (like the HMDX JAM), you had a wireless speaker that cut out whenever your received a phone call – pretty much exactly what you would want from a speaker. The Splash and Roam add to the functionality of the JAM by using the portable speakers as an on-demand speakerphone.

The JAM Splash is a Bluetooth speaker that you take into your shower to listen to music, and should you get a call, by pressing one button you can take it without even leaving your shower. It can be hung from a shower head, or suction cupped to the shower door. If you’re like me, the only time people seem to call you is when you’re cooking or in the shower, so this has potential.

The HDMX Roam is basically a JAM that can be plugged directly into a wall outlet for charging, and also can be switched to speakerphone mode with the touch of a button. It’s ideal for kitchens, bathrooms, and basically anywhere where a speakerphone and a speaker would be appreciated. The speakerphone button is large enough to whack with something not covered in whatever you’re preparing for dinner.

Both the JAM Splash and the Roam contain a rechargeable internal battery capable of playing over six hours of music, and neither have to be tethered around the house.

Of the two, I’d say the Roam appears to be the more usable of the products, as you can recharge it anywhere, unlike the HMDX JAM which required a USB powering, which isn’t going to be easily available at the in-laws.

The HDMX Roam has an MSRP of $49.99 and will be available Spring of 2013. The JAM Splash lists an MSRP of $79.99 but no release date is listed yet.
