Deal Alert: Best Buy selling original Microsoft Surface Pro for $499

Surface Pro

Even with its flaws, the Microsoft Surface Pro is still one heck of a laptop/tablet convertible. Packed with an Ivy Bridge i5, 4GB of RAM, and 128GB of flash memory, the original Surface Pro is still quite the impressive piece of hardware – and through Saturday, Best Buy is selling it for just $499.99.

A 10.1-inch, 1080p screen; a Wacom digitizer; a thin and light design; and five hours of battery life round out the device’s specs. A physical keyboard and touchpad aren’t included, but the Touch and Type covers are also available from Best Buy for $79 and $129, respectively.

The original Surface Pro lacks the current-generation’s adjustable kickstand, as well as Haswell’s graphics and battery life improvements, but $499 is a very small price to pay for one of the best Ultrabooks around. I’ve been using mine as a desktop replacement after an unfortunate liquid spillage rendered my gaming PC useless, and it has been more than adequate for all of my desktop productivity needs.

The deal is only good until tomorrow, January 31. The $400 discount will end then, bringing the price back up to $999.
