LiquidSmooth v 3.0 Beta ROM available for the HTC One M8
If you’ve been waiting for an AOSP ROM for your HTC One M8, besides CyanogenMod (which started nightlies yesterday), you now have the LiquidSmooth Beta (well, at least if you’re on Sprint). Whether it works or is available on other carriers, I do not know at this point.
The Liquid Smooth ROM brings some of the greatest AOSP features to your One M8 such as HALO, Ram Bar, the CyanogenMod Theme Engine, enhanced privacy guard, WiFi Tethering (ok, you can get that on Sense too), built in SuperUser, and a wide variety of features that Sense just doesn’t have.
It’s AOSP, so remember you’re going to need to get a Google Apps package for Android 4.4+ if you want to have access to the Play Store and all the Google goodies. Additionally, the developers have included a link to three that clock in at 112MB, 153MB, and 164MB. There’s no description of what is contained in these, but if you choose the smaller one you can probably download anything that’s missing from Google Play later.
If you’re going to install it, make sure to have a good and complete Nandroid backup before you attempt, and also test the validity of the ROM’s archive – if you get a couple of bytes wrong in it, you’re looking at a botched install halfway through.
Fortunately, AOSP ROMs are in the 200MB range, as opposed to the 1.2GB range of most Sense ROMs, so the chance of a messed up download is five times less than a Sense one. But check archive/MD5 and make a nandroid anyway, just because recovering a ROM is a pain.
If you install it, drop us a line and let us know how it’s working for you!
