Yahoo + Intel = UMPC

The UMPC’s less-than-warm welcome hasn’t discouraged Intel from forging ahead with plans for the device’s next generation. A few weeks ago, the company announced its partnership with Yahoo by revealing the new "Yahoo! Go for UMPC" graphical user interface that will make its debut on next year’s Yahoo-branded UMPC.

The upcoming device will feature a 5-inch screen and simplified Yahoo home page that will allow users to watch news clips, check the weather, access maps, and check email. Company executives confirmed that the UMPC would not be packing the Core 2 Duo processor under its hood, but would consume about half the power of CPUs currently on the market.

Not much else is known about the new gadget, but I hope a well-known hardware manufacturer gets involved.
