Onkyo VR-1000J records video on memory cards

Onkyo_vr1000jOnkyo Japan just unveiled its pyramid-shaped VR-1000J media recorder designed for use with PSPs and cell phones accepting MS Duo or SD cards. Somewhat similar to the Neuros MPEG4 Recorder 2, which records directly onto MS Duo and CF cards, the VR-1000J records video from an A/V source directly onto the memory cards in MPEG-4 format with AAC/G.726/AMR audio (up to 320 x 240).

Measuring 5.9" x 6.1" x 2.3", the recorder will retail for about $170 when it hits stores in Japan in the next few weeks. The Neuros may be smaller, less expensive, and available in the U.S. now, but it doesn’t look fit for a pharaoh. And isn’t that what it all boils down to in the end?
