FlipStart: The iPhone of the handtop world

The cause of rumors and wild speculation for years, the FlipStart handtop may follow in the Apple iPhone’s footsteps and finally become official this week. Proof: Vulcan is listed as one of the panelists at today’s UMPC conference session and the company website has had a facelift.

Images of the "original" FlipStart (one of which can be seen here) are no longer where they once were. In fact, the entire site is non-functional . . . for now.

Only UMPC has published Google-cached specs, but these are likely to be incorrect, as the information duplicates what has always been "known" about the device. The page retrieved on December 18th doesn’t look like it’s changed since every other time before today that I’ve visited the site.

In any case, we should know soon enough whether/when the FlipStart will take its first breath.
