HTC Athena launches as Dopod U1000 next week
Next week, Dopod International will launch the HTC Athena, rebranded as the U1000, in Taiwan and other parts of Asia.

Unnamed sources are always suspect, but I’ve never really doubted any information dug up by or fed to DigiTimes. Not until now, anyway. Even though news of the European Athena, the T-Mobile Ameo, broke a few days ago, the IT news site credits "market sources" for word that HTC might launch "the UMPC" (argh!) under its own brand in Europe "while co-marketing the product in the US in cooperation with Cingular."
And you call that a pocketable?!
Well, I know for sure that it wouldn’t fit into my pocket, but it should slip fairly easily into a man’s jacket/coat pocket.
You can read more about why this site includes gadgets that don’t literally fit into my pockets here: http://pocketables.com/faq.html#Q4
I’m actually very curious about how useful the Athena will be as a smartphone. It seems much too big to hold up against your ear…
