Intel, Via, and AMD inside 31 UMPCs

31_umpcsQuick! Off the top of your head, count up all the UMPC models currently and soon to be on the market.

Did you get 31?

DigiTimes did. Although they say the number is just a "rough estimation," they counted 14 UMPCs powered by Intel, 13 by Via, and 4 by AMD. Considering that there are at least 100 versions of the Sony Vaio UX, I’d say the total is missing a zero.

AMD is actually rumored to be gearing up to increase its number with the upcoming 667MHz Geode LX900 processor, successor to the 500MHz LX800 currently housed inside the Raon Digital Vega and Pepper Pad 3. DigiTimes’ ever-popular and all-knowing "market sources" point to AMD completely replacing the LX800 with the LX900, so it’s unlikely that future AMD-based UMPCs will be available in configurations that differ beyond storage capacity, RAM, and OS.
