Some are filing this in the "old news but finally official" category, but Samsung’s announcement today of the Q1P SSD has actually never been uttered before.
The confusion comes from the Q1-SSD, which was announced in Korea nearly eight months ago as the first UMPC to sport a 32GB NAND flash-based drive. Although the Q1P SSD (no hyphen this time around) features the same drive, its other specs mimic that of the Q1P, not the original Q1. That means, among other things, 1 GHz Pentium M with 1GB RAM instead of 900 MHz Celeron M with 512MB RAM.
Along with Samsung’s announcement came details on U.S. suggested pricing: $1,999 (Q1P SSD), $1,299 (Q1P), and a newly lowered $999 (Q1). The Q1b, for whatever reason, was not mentioned. Most of the models can still be purchased for less (you may recall that I bought my Q1P for $1,199 from Newegg.com a few weeks ago; it’s listed at $1,249.99 right now) from various online retailers.
