Humor me for a bit, though, because in addition to the integrated GPS and FM transmitter, the 7STAR has a whopping 80GB hard drive, USB device and host ports, SD card slot, DMB tuner, AV in/out, and MS Office file viewer. It’s also a formidable portable media player, with native support of standard formats plus XviD and DivX (up to 720 x 480), OGG, and AC3.
The $740 device has a 7-inch display, measures 7.5 x 4.9 x 1.1 inches, and weighs 1.5 pounds. On the surface, then, it fits right in with at least the first crop of UMPCs. And if Windows CE were its only sticking point, I think I’d really lament its Korean exclusivity. Unfortunately, it has a few extra hurdles standing in its way. First, the 7-inch display is (brace yourself) QVGA, 480 x 234. Second, it uses the MagicEyes MMSP 2 processor (okay, I don’t really know what this means, but I’m fairly certain it isn’t good for handtops). And third, it has only 128MB SDRAM and 64MB NAND.
And you thought the LifeDrive wasn’t going to have a successor.
