Don't get your Valentine a phone
Unless your sweetheart is male, that is. Because according to a "representative sample" of 1,000 UK adults, most women would rather die alone than receive a mobile phone for Valentine’s Day.
Just kidding. But only 16.7% of those surveyed by NEMS Market Research believe a woman would consider a phone to be a lovely alternative to two dozen red roses and a box of chocolates. A random 27-year-old teacher from Bristol explains the low number by saying that men don’t "get [that] girls want romance at this time of year." Sounds like a bitter observation to me, but the research seems to support the sentiment. Apparently, for any other occasion except this Wednesday, 54% of women would happily accept a phone as a gift. But to honor Cupid, not even one of these rhinestone-encrusted numbers (via Chip Chick) would do.
Personally, I think nothing is finer than a shiny new gadget. Heck, I even got one as a bridal gift from my husband! Good thing I asked for it, too, because otherwise he would’ve bought me some kind of other shiny stuff to wear around my neck.
