H9 Linux UMPC priced under $500

H9_priceI received an email this morning from the sales manager of Beijing Peace East Technology Development, the folks behind the H9 Linux UMPC (my apologies for the term abuse), containing rather delightful news. The H9 is just $490! And it seems to be available right now. All you have to do is order 500 units.

Here’s the thing. I don’t think the China-based company deals with individuals. In fact, based on the email, it appears that the sales manager thinks I’m a wholesale buyer. Whoops.

I hope he doesn’t add me to his spam list after I tell him who I really am because he mentioned another device, this one running Windows CE, called the H10 that I’d like to know more about as well. The H10, he says, is a specialized model designed for geological prospectors, the army and police, and those working in forestry, oil, water conservation, transportation, and architecture. He also pointed me to porient.com, the company’s official website, which others have already discovered.

More as it develops.
