H9 Linux UMPC was at CES 2007

H10And apparently only Microsoft, Apple, and Samsung visited its booth at the Hilton. Aw. Poor, unseen Beijing Peace East Technology Development Company!

I didn’t know this when I initially inquired about pricing the other day, but according to Global Sources, "the company caters to overseas OEM buyers only." Now normally, the fact that I’m not an OEM buyer would be enough for me to understand why my follow-up email has been left unanswered.

If only an individual-unit price of no less than $800 hadn’t been quoted to someone else yesterday!

It’s doubtful that the interactions at CES will blossom into anything noteworthy, especially considering that the nicely spec’d H8 WinCE PDA has sparked little (if any) interest since its June 2006 debut, but I’m not giving up yet. Whether the H9 and H10 (pictured) are headed for the same fate remains to be seen; if it skyrockets in the opposite direction, it may be worth knowing that Beijing Peace has a monthly production capacity of 80,000 units.
