Samsung Q1 Ultra available for preorder

Q1ultra_germanyEven though the Q1 Ultra still hasn’t been on the receiving end of an official press release, The Tablet Store in Germany is already taking preorders for it.

Priced at 1500 euros (about $2K), the UMPC is expected to begin shipping in late May or early June. This release date is in keeping with earlier information, but the MSRP isn’t. The last figure I had heard was 1200 euros ($1600). UMPCPortal.com, who spotted the preorder page, suggests that U.S. pricing will likely be around $1500, which is definitely more palatable. (UPDATE: Samsung has confirmed pricing to be 1200 euros, which is now reflected at The Tablet Store.)

The processor, which has been the source of an unusual amount of speculation for the past month, is being listed as "Intel Pentium/New Generation" with a parenthetical mention of the Santa Rosa platform. Again, however, the last I had heard was the McCaslin platform and a single-core Steeley processor.

I sure hope all of this nonsense is sorted out at IDF next week.
