Hackers put iPhone features on Nokia N800

Considering that the iPhone isn’t even available outside of the U.S. yet, Brazilian hackers are doing an excellent job of replicating some of its features on the Nokia N800 Internet Tablet.

Using Python, Edje, and Evas, they’ve so far been able to create/duplicate "flickable" kinetic scrolling and an iPhone-like virtual keyboard (albeit without predictive text entry).

See both in action below.

Kenneth Christiansen‘s kinetic scrolling:

I’d really love for this to officially make its way to the N800 because I just can’t seem to remember that the function isn’t already there. I use my N800 almost daily and, obviously without thinking, I always tap on a menu item and try to "flick" through a list. I’ve had the iPhone for about 5 weeks now, but I think my brain embraced its scrolling function immediately; it only took a few days for me to start to automatically expect it to be on everything (even devices without touchscreens!).

Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri‘s virtual keyboard:

I wonder when the "nPhone" will join the ranks of the uPhone . . .
