New HTC Shift details disappoint

Htc_shift_gitexOfficial specs and other recently confirmed details about the much-anticipated HTC Shift are definitely putting a damper on the high expectations of those who’ve been enamored with the UMPC since its March unveiling.

Accused of going from hero to zero over the weekend, the Shift has not only an 800 x 480 resolution that most people (including me) don’t want, but also a mere two hours of battery life and what is absolutely not a full version of Windows Mobile. According to a poll at UMPC Portal, these specs are certainly not what most people wanted to hear. At the time of this writing, nearly 60% of voters admit that the news has adversely affected their interest in owning the Shift. Me? I’m still on the fence. Even though all of the new information comes directly from HTC’s General Manager (by way of Kaz 911), nothing should ever be considered final until the units actually begin shipping. I think Palm taught us that.
