Nokia N810 Internet Tablet shipment delayed

If a Nokia N810 Internet Tablet is on your Christmas list this year, you’d better hope that Amazon.com isn’t one of Santa’s suppliers.

Because not only is the N810 now unavailable for purchase there, but according to an email about my own three-week-old order, "an unexpected delay from [their] supplier may prevent [them] from delivering . . . by December 24." My new estimated arrival date, which was previously set between 11/30 and 12/10, is now pushed back by three weeks. Worst case scenario, I should get my device on the very last day of the year.

Other retailers are also listing the N810 as either temporarily out of stock or on backorder, so the short supply doesn’t seem to be exclusive to Amazon.

A few weeks’ delay isn’t the end of the world and the unit will ship eventually, but it’s still annoying that preordering through Amazon doesn’t actually secure your spot in line. Reader weatherman confirmed this in a comment he left elsewhere:

Just FYI: I ordered from Amazon the first day they went on pre-order and was told that they would not likely be able to deliver it until after x-mas. . . . Cut to a couple of days later, insomniac that I am I’m surfing around 3 in the AM and find that Amazon has two left in stock available for immediate shipping (and at a higher price). I threw caution to the wind and purchased it on the spot. It arrived yesterday and I’ve now got the sweet little N810 in my hands. I called Amazon and got them to refund the difference in price between what I paid and the pre-order price, but they gave no apology or explanation about why they weren’t filling pre-orders first.

Has anyone else who went through Amazon received their N810 yet?
