Asus R50A UMPC sits on Menlow platform

Asus_r50a_umpcThe award-winning Asus R50A UMPC first seen at the Intel Developer Forum last year and officially outed by Asus in November was one of the new devices shown at the company’s press event last week. The hardware hasn’t changed since it last made headlines a few months ago, but there is still a list of nice new details to report.

According to specs collected by UMPCPortal, the Asus R50A runs Windows Vista on a 5.6-inch touchscreen (1024 x 600) and is powered by a 1.33GHz Intel Silverthorne processor. Tucked inside the 7.8" x 3.8" x 1.1" keyboard-less unit are the Intel Poulsbo chipset that rounds out the Menlow platform, a 32GB SSD, 1GB of RAM, GPS, Bluetooth, 802.11b/g wi-fi, and HSDPA connectivity. On top of all that, the 1.15-pound device also has a fingerprint scanner and front/rear cameras. Impressive.
