The iPod touch just got a lot more iPhone-like today with the immediate availability of previously iPhone-exclusive native applications Mail, Maps, Weather, Notes, and Stocks. Factory-fresh touches will ship with the new functionality tucked inside their 4.3" x 2.4" x 0.31" bodies. Players already in pockets (and on store shelves?), on the other hand, must ask their owners to visit the iTunes Store and pay $20 for the January Software Upgrade.
Unfair? I think so too.
Sure, $20 isn’t as much of a slap in the face as a $200 price cut, but unless Apple will be issuing store credits a few days from now to appease the outraged touch owners (now $20 poorer), it’s still pretty annoying.
