Lenovo Ideapad U8 MID promo

Lenovo_ideapad_u8Hey, when did the odd-looking Lenovo MID shown at CES get named the Ideapad U8? I completely missed it!

In any case, UMPCPortal.com found a new promo video (below) of the Centrino Atom device at the Mobility@Intel blog today and notes that it’s on its way to Beijing (and possibly nowhere outside of Asia) this summer.

Engadget, who found this photo I’ve never seen before (man, am I out of the Lenovo loop or what?), adds that the 4.8" touchscreen will support handwriting recognition and highlights the "bullseye optical mouse" and EDGE/3G connectivity. Other than the Linux OS, camera, and phone-like keypad, little else is known about the unit.

Now I may be alone in saying this, but I think this has got to be one of the uglier MIDs of the bunch. The Universal abit slider isn’t a looker either, though, so at least the U8’s got some company.
