Nokia N810 WiMAX Edition gets official

Rather than join the goose chase triggered by that Best Buy sales flyer a few weeks ago, I decided to sit out and wait for the press release of the WiMAX-flavored Nokia N810 Internet Tablet. I’m not much of a runner anyway, and I assumed like everyone else that official word would be spoken at CTIA Wireless 2008. And it was.

Along with a black casing and access to Sprint’s XOHM network, the N810 WiMAX Edition will also be outfitted with an updated version of OS2008 featuring an enhanced email client and other improvements when it hits the shelves for $449 this summer. Current N800 and N810 users should be able to snag the OS update in Q2 of this year.

I know it’s too naive to hope for a trade-in program, but it’s only been about five months since the launch of the first N810 (and it’s still selling for over $400 at Amazon).
