VIA and NVIDIA take aim at Intel MIDs with new VN platform

NvidiaDetails are really slim on this, but DigiTimes is reporting today that VIA and NVIDIA have teamed up to see what happens when the former’s C7 and C8 CPUs are paired with the latter’s IGP chipsets. The union is being called the VN platform, and the goal is to "target Intel’s nettop, netbook, and MID products" with new VN-based devices that are slated for release in Q1 of next year.

That’s the extent of the information at the moment, so how this will all pan out is anyone’s guess. VIA already has its feet firmly planted in UMPC/mini notebook ground, though, so Centrino Atom MIDs could find themselves up against some strong competition. Thoughts?
