Win an MSI Wind in the Pocketables Forum Giveaway

To celebrate the launch of the Pocketables Forum, I’m giving away a brand new MSI Wind (U100-Windows).

Msi_wind_giveaway

Just released today, the 10-inch Wind (an acronym for Wi-fi Network Device) received more than 40% of the votes cast in last week’s giveaway prize poll and is sure to make one lucky person from anywhere in the world quite happy with its 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 80GB hard drive, 4-in-1 card reader, webcam, and 5.5-hour battery life.

In an effort to jump-start the Pocketables Forum and start building what I hope will eventually become a thriving community, you’ll need to register and participate in the forum to be eligible to win the Wind. Every thread/reply of substance that you make in the forum will count as an entry, so the more you post, the greater your chances of winning. For all of the eligibility requirements and additional information, please read the official Pocketables Forum Giveaway rules.

The winner will be chosen at random on July 1.

  • My Fuji U810 is already looking very nervous since my registration. The Wind in black looks like it was made for Johnny Cash doesn’t it?!

This would be great for me. I was hoping my Tilt could take over as my only portable machine. It’s great for e-mail and many other things. However, web browsing on such a small screen is tough.

  • I have been waiting for a small mobile laptop that doesn’t sacrifice performance in order to fit into a light weight form factor for years. The MSI Wind is the laptop I’ve been waiting for since I started getting into computers in the 90s and would be the first new laptop I’ve ever owned. If this contest doesn’t work out for me I’ll be picking one up for myself once the 6 cell battery comes standard in the USA. I can’t wait to get blogging and writing on the little guy!

  • Wind’s real competition for the eee PC 8.9 901 XP … I wonder about SSD vs. hard drive? the eee has SSD, that is no moving parts. wonder which one produces more heat? Wind need a fan(?) while eee’s SSD does not. then, whenever any one of the 2 arrive in Montréal, which will be the better price/quality? the eee PC costs 550$ cdn at the moment and Wind is probably coming out in the EU for 299 EUR and in the US at 299$ US. Wind looks finer than the eee PC, better battery life, larger screen & keyboard. only problem, Wind will never get to Montréal. Well after the rest of the world, maybe … means I’ll have to settle for the eee PC/8.9 when its price drops some … crazy expensive at 550-575$ plus cdn taxes.

  • @ Kevin: If this is your first visit to the site, then I understand why you would think the giveaway is fake. But I have been running Pocketables every day for the past two years and guarantee that this contest is legitimate. I would never risk losing everything I’ve worked for here (or deceive my readers) just for two weeks worth of “contest traffic.” A short burst of forum activity is not worth wasting the past two years of my life or damaging my reputation/integrity, so I assure you that I will purchase an MSI Wind with my own money and give it away to someone who enters the contest.

When I choose the winner, I will do everything possible to prove that he/she will be receiving a brand new MSI Wind. I will post receipts, photos, and anything else needed to put the minds of doubters at ease. I will also ask that the winner share some photos of him/herself with the Wind in hand.

    I hope I win.

I bought a EEE PC before and gave it to my sister. I have two laptops (15.4″) already but sure was convenient to just throw a tiny computer into my bag and go. MSI Wind is definitely a better computer as it has more stuff than EEE PC. Faster, more RAM, more Space, keyboard is a bit bigger which was the complain that I had when I was using EEE PC.

  • Reviews of this have been quite good. A reply to someone else here, one website actually took the thing apart and booted up using SSD drive instead of a HD and it didn’t run any faster.

This laptop is perfect for a student like me. Small enough to toss in a bag without worry and powerful enough to code and run basic simulations on campus.

  • What exactly is the difference between an SSD and hard drive?
I’ve been looking for an ultraportable for some time, but nothing exactly fits what I want…except the wind. I’d really like to see one, but I don’t know if any stores in the US will carry them. I’m only concerned that it might be a bit TOO small for a main computer. As a student, it might be impractical to have more than one. But I definitely want something that I can carry around with me wherever. I can’t wait to get my hands on a wind!!

  • I have been planning to buy a MacBook but as I was searching for more options, saw MSI Wind Notebook. I went from confident to confused. I was set to a decision that I will just take MacBook, but what can I say, MSI Wind Notebook really got me. I really like things going on mobile but don’t want it’s functionality shrink with it’s size as well. MSI Wind Notebook is powerful even with its size. It’s a win-win!

  • I like the reviews on the MSI. I’m looking for a small laoptop for just the essentials, when we travel overseas to adopt our daughter. Looks like this is perfect, for photo sharing, and internet use. Which is about all we will need.
