6-cell MSI Wind expected July 15th (updated)

I preordered the 6-cell MSI Wind from Buy.com yesterday for the Pocketables Forum Giveaway winner and though the estimated ship date is listed as "Back Order," there’s still reason to believe that it may be available as expected this month. You’ll recall that although the 3-cell and 6-cell Windows XP versions were both supposed to be released on June 16th, delay after delay resulted in the 3-cell being pushed back to July 7th and the 6-cell being given a vague "in July" release date.

We’ll find out on Monday what happens to the 3-cell unit, but even if it’s delayed again, the 6-cell MSI Wind could still begin shipping as soon as July 15th.

Pocketables Forum moderator Blitz50 recently discovered that Dynamism is accepting preorders for the 6-cell Wind (not sure what’s going on with the $599 price) and is expecting their first shipment on July 15th.

Although the listed specs at the top of the product page cite only the 3-cell unit’s 2.3-pound weight, causing some to question whether the 6-cell Wind is really for sale, the description below it proves that Dynamism is aware of the difference in weight.

Further proof that the importer is indeed selling the 6-cell netbook is that they are also taking (unpriced) 3-cell preorders alongside it. And if they receive their stock of 6-cell Winds on the 15th, then it’s very likely that other retailers will get theirs soon as well. Cross your fingers!

Update 7.8.08: I give up. MSI has issued a new press release today stating that the 6-cell Windows model will be available in September.
