As the Fujitsu U2010 UMPC becomes available in country after country, both with and without built-in GPS, those in the US can do nothing but sit idly by and continue to wait for their turn to pick up the Atom-based mini convertible. It’s been almost two months since the American version of the U2010, the U820, got its FCC clearance, so eager buyers have already grown hoarse from chanting the "any day now!" mantra.
Today, however, it really looks like the device will be let out of the gate very soon.
Pocketables Forum member and all-around community asset orbitalcomp spotted not just the U820 in a drop-down menu on Fujitsu’s US support site, but a BIOS update (dated July 31) for the new model as well!
Sadly, the "Tech Specs" tab on the support page (see screenshot above), despite its U820 designation, actually shows the specifications for the U810. The "FAQs" tab is equally unhelpful with its U810 focus.
But keep your chin up. Even though we don’t get a sneak peek at the U820’s specs (U2010 configurations vary according to region, so existing specs do not provide any insight beyond a bunch of "it might have this" guesses), the fact that the UMPC’s existence is finally being acknowledged on the US site is a step in the right direction. Paired with the fact that a reader actually advised me to keep an eye on the Fujitsu site after the U820 missed its supposed due date of the 19th, this is a very good sign indeed.[Pocketables Forum]
