Technology obsession could lead to network TV debut

Tech_street_sign

Internet addiction may be a mental disorder and gadget mania may require psychotherapy, but did you know they could also get you on TV? And not because of some "Crazed fanatics sedated after losing UMPC power cords" headline either.

The casting producer of ABC’s Wife Swap recently got in touch with me because the show is seeking "superstar technology obsessed families" made up of two parents and at least one child, age 7 to 17, living at home. I have zero interest in being on TV, switching places with a woman who is not technologically inclined, and letting that woman take over this site while I’m forced to do who knows what in some scary place called Offline (where the premise of the show suggests she’d be from). Besides, my husband and I don’t meet the kid requirement anyway.

If your tech-addicted family is interested in applying to be on the show, however, read the email I received from the producer and find out more information below.

Subject: ABC Seeking Families Who Love Technology

WIFE SWAP, ABC’S HIT PRIMETIME SHOW, SEEKS SUPERSTAR TECHNOLOGY OBSESSED FAMILIES!

Are you addicted to your blackberry or iPhone? Have a flat screen TV in every room? Couldn’t live without your iPod touch and GPS? If your family loves technology – I want to talk to you!

The premise of Wife Swap is that one parent from each household swaps places for a week to experience how another family lives. It is an incredible family experience and opportunity to both learn and teach different family values.

Wife Swap is a fascinating story of what happens when two couples see themselves and their partners in a whole new light. The New York Post says, "It should be called ‘Life Swap’ because it’s not just the wives who learn something here. It’s the families."

Potential families can live anywhere in the United States, but we ask that families applying for the show consist of two parents and have at least one child, age 7 -17, living at home.

To submit for the show please email a family photo and description to [email omitted*].

If you are a family unit (two parents and children between the ages of 7 and 17) who love an adventure, I would love to hear from you today!

*The email address provided to me is not the same as the one on the Wife Swap application page, so I don’t know if it’s meant to be listed publicly. If you’d rather get in touch with the casting producer than fill out the standard application form, let me know.
