Fujitsu Lifebook U810 awarded as "sick prize" on MTV reality show
Here’s an acronym you probably never thought you’d see here: MTV, the music television network that used to be about music videos but is now overrun with reality shows. Such shows are usually more about discovering "what happens when people stop being polite" and finding Paris Hilton a new BFF (seriously) than portable technology and UMPCs, but last night the worlds collided when TJ Lavin revealed the prize for winning the latest face-off on the Real World/Road Rules Challenge: The Island.
Up for the taking and cloaked with what looked like a piece of burlap was the Fujitsu LifeBook U810 and a Maxtor OneTouch portable hard drive.
TJ called it "one of the world’s smallest convertible notebooks" with about the same level of enthusiasm that some of the participants applauded it. Amid the polite clapping were murmurs of "great," "nice," and "that’s awesome" all flatly stated as fact. The winner of the face-off called the package a "sick prize" in the end but was definitely more stoked about getting his key back, which he needs to compete for the final $300K prize. Yes, there’s some important stuff going on over at MTV.
At least someone there knows something about UMPCs (or knows they exist, anyway).
You can watch the full episode here. Fast-forward to 24:32 for the U810 and 28:25 for the "sick prize" comment.
