Poll results: 55% want at least WVGA resolution for mobile internet

Screen_res_poll_results

According to the results of last week’s poll, more than half of those who voted think that WVGA (800 x 480) is the minimum screen resolution for acceptable web browsing on a portable device. Coming in at a distant second is VGA (640 x 480), which only 16% of you feels is adequate. Just 7% of respondents need something higher than WVGA, most citing WSVGA (1024 x 600) as the lowest they’ll accept for on-the-go internet.

Surprised? I am. Though I did expect WVGA to come out on top, I didn’t think the results would be so overwhelmingly in favor of that resolution. Then again, I assume that those who voted lean more toward the UMPC/MID community than the smartphone one, which would explain the preference/demand for higher resolutions. Run the poll on an iPhone site, for example, and that green piece of the pie (11%) would probably take over.

Fortunately for UMPC/MID enthusiasts like us, our favorite devices are rarely available in anything but WVGA and WSVGA anyway.
