Pocketables packs up for MID Moves

Uh-oh. A stack of gadgets encased mostly in leather can only mean two things: I'm going somewhere and I've overpacked again.

Along with the cold I picked up at CES last week, I'm headed to the airport for a flight to California today with the devices you see here to officially kick off the MID Moves tour. I opted not to put everything on a scale this time 1) because I know it's heavier than what I took to CES and 2) because these encased gadgets alone already weigh over 9 pounds.

Add to that the weight of the accompanying power bricks, extra batteries, cords/cables, and peripherals, and . . . well, to be honest, my digital tabletop scale doesn't go that high.

I've provided a more in-depth look at what I'm taking in this "Inside my gear bag" post at MID Moves, so I'll just give you a quick rundown here.

It looks excessive, I know, but to be fair, the OQO, BenQ, and Willcom are required for the tour. The whole point of MID Moves is to use Intel-based devices (MIDs and UMPCs), so I couldn't leave them at home. The Vaio TZ with its extended battery weighs a little over 3 pounds all by itself, too, so it's not as though I'm taking a sackful of 5-ounce gadgets. In other words, I'm not certifiably crazy.

My part of the tour officially begins tomorrow (1/19) and runs through Thursday (1/22), but there might be some spillover through the weekend while I'm still in California. I plan to continue to update Pocketables during that time, but most of my time will be spent posting on MID Moves. I'll be micro blogging on Twitter, updating my location on brightkite, mobile blogging from all of the handheld devices, writing on the TZ, posting pictures on Flickr, and uploading videos on YouTube, so it should be a fun week. I hope you'll come along.
