Uh, did Sony forget that the Vaio P already has the Gobi WWAN chipset inside its 1.4-pound body? Because unless the company's announcement about selecting the wireless technology for three of its ultraportable notebooks (including the Vaio P) is actually referring to a refreshed model with a SIM slot that doesn't need hacking to enable HSPA, today's news out of Barcelona is over a month old.
Considering that Gobi's best feature (dual-mode support) isn't mentioned in the press release, a Qualcomm CDMA Technologies executive supplied a quote, and the chipset is defined simply as a technology that "enables users to send and receive email, upload or download photos, receive instant updates to social media sites, and access a wide range of software applications over the Internet on their notebooks – all through 3G cellular networks," it's pretty obvious that the P isn't being updated.
The inclusion of Gobi in future Vaio Z and TT models may be newsworthy, but it's definitely old news in the existing Vaio P.
