Inkia shows unnamed Atom-based MIDs

Portable consumer electronics from China aren't always held in high esteem and are therefore often overlooked. No one's missing out on much by skipping the devices in most cases, but when two new Chinese MIDs come equipped with the Intel Atom N270 and an array of Z5xx series processors, we'd be remiss not to give them a closer look.

Inkia International recently added two new slate-style Intel MIDs to its website and has just begun promoting them. Both units run Windows XP or Linux on 1GB of RAM and an SSD up to 32GB. The MIDs also support 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS and have 800 x 480 touchscreens.

The smaller device, pictured above, displays those pixels on a 5-inch screen and rounds out its hardware with a microSD card slot, mouse buttons, stereo speakers, 0.3-megapixel webcam, and 3.2-megapixel camera. Other specs:

The larger MID boasts a 7-inch screen, SD/MMC card slot, 0.3-megapixel webcam, and thick red accents on its casing. Additional specs:

There's also a VIA version of this MID with specs that are more consistent with "typical" Chinese devices.

Both units look like they might be of questionable build quality, but their internals are fairly competitive with other devices from bigger brands. Neither MID has a name or price, though I think both have the potential to be picked up and rebadged by other companies.

Thanks, Palsy!
