Viliv X70 delivery delayed by components shortage

Viliv_x70_delay If you preordered the Viliv X70 UMPC when Dynamism began offering it with a free accessory kit several weeks ago, then you know that the first shipment was scheduled to arrive today.

Unfortunately, according to an email sent out to customers this morning (see below), a components shortage has pushed back the expected delivery date by two weeks. Though Dynamism is trying to shorten the wait, the importer is now expecting its first shipment on August 11th.

It isn't clear whether all of the units in the first shipment have already been reserved for fulfilling existing preorders, but that's what the "shipment expected September 2nd" note on the product page seems to suggest.

Subject: Viliv X70 delivery update
Date: Tue, 28 Jul 2009 13:00:35 -0500

Dear Customer,

Thank you for your recent order of the Viliv X70.  We had hoped to be emailing you with the tracking number, but unfortunately that is not the case. Our shipment has been delayed by the factory.  For the record, the delay is due to a components shortage: the recession has been less severe than suppliers expected, and MIDs have been especially popular this year. These factors have led to constraints on some components.  We are sorry about this delay.

We know this delay is an inconvenience and we apologize. It is frustrating for us as well when something which is out of our hands comes up, after we work very hard to create a great customer experience. Please know that we are doing everything within in our power to push for fastest possible shipment. We estimate the delay on our first shipment to be about two weeks (August 11th), although we are hoping for less.

Although any order can be canceled for a full refund prior to shipment, we hope that you will bear with us as we do everything within our power to minimize this delay. Nobody should have to wait, but if any device/ deal is worth the wait, this is it. This is a uniquely cool device and a really fantastic package. You may have heard it many times already, but we hope you have not become inured to the value of this device with its great spec and low price point–especially with all those free accessories/upgrades.

Express Model Pre-Order Special:
Free 1.3GHz Upgrade from 1.2Ghz, Car kit, Leather pouch, and Protective Film

Premium Models Pre-Order Special:
Free Standard Battery, Car kit, Leather pouch, and Protective Film ($195 value!)

We will send another update within the next week, but please let us know if you need anything else in the meantime.

Thank you,
Dynamism Sales

Update 8.3.09: Dynamism sent out another email today to tell buyers that "the first batch has already shipped from the factory to [them] and will be sent out this week. The second batch should be shipped as early as Wednesday, and should be shipped to fill all remaining orders by early next week." Good news!

Hmm…I wonder how successful has these sales been…I’d be inclined to think that the x70/s5 sale/promotion was extended ’til 8/5/09 because this promotion wasn’t as crazy as the 1st one, and there are less people buying? But that’s me only…there might be other reasons…but even though both systems are now priced more competitively, compared to previous umpcs/mids, they are still expensive, given the current economic situation, and the fact that there are other less expensive options for mobile computing.

Granted, the rumored phone feature of the x70 increases its attractiveness somehow (but at the end, how usable would it be as a phone?), but the “classic” Everun already had that feature (with a voice-enabled mini-pci-e broadband modem), and looks like if you hack the HTC SHIFT x9500 (at least the GSM version), you get phone functionality as well.

The Viliv’s are nice, more affordable devices, and they are backed by more marketing muscles (look at the SNSD girls) than the previous Korean pc makers (Wibrain? Raon?)…so, it’d be exciting to see the future models!

  • Viliv X70 ex the GPS tells even AFTER 1 hour in clear sky, no buildings :

GPS with Street Deck 2 with licence, tells: “GPS not configured or not connected!” I’m in Com1 and 9600 bauds; when i do destination on the map, it tells:

“Awaiting for GPS signal” (blinking that message, for hours!)

Is GPS malfunction or defective? Where is the GPS switch in the Viliv X70 ?
