DigiTimes has reported that Asus will formally debut its Eee Pad tablet PC at Computex Taipei 2010. Spotted at CES as a concept device called the EeePC Touch Series and powered by nVidia's latest Tegra 250 chipset, the tablet PC is rumored to cost under $500 when it goes on sale later this year and will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, a subsidiary of Asus.

As I previously noted, I liked the design of the concept tablet shown at CES (shown on the left) and have high hopes for great performance and capabilities with the Tegra 250 onboard. The rumored price of around $500 seems a bit on the high side, and hopefully will be lower when the product hits the market. I find it interesting that Asus seem to be positioning the Eee Pad as a tablet PC rather than simply a MID, perhaps indicating a wider range of features and a custom installation of Linux making it more akin to a UMPC? Hopefully all will be revealed at Computex at the beginning of June.
