Gigabyte in negotiations to join Android smartphone party

Gigabyte_s1200
Gigabyte Technology, the well known hardware manufacturer synonymous with motherboards, graphics cards, computer components, and even UMPCs also makes a range of mobile phone devices under its GSmart line with the GSmart S1200 shown above. Currently, all these devices run Windows Mobile, but that may be about to change with news that Gigabyte and AboCom Systems, a wireless technology company, are negotiating with Taiwanese mobile carrier Vibo Telecom to produce new smartphones running Android.

Although Gigabyte is not well known for its mobile devices, the GSmart line of devices is fairly popular in Asia. If the company does join the growing number of Android handset manufacturers, it will be interesting to see what kinds of devices it brings to the table, combined with its usual high quality standards and competitive pricing.
