Turn your Nokia N900 into a WiFi hotspot with JoikuSpot

Joiku_1

I'm not sure how I missed this one, but apparently Joikusoft has released its wonderful JoikuSpot WiFi hotspot utility for the Nokia N900, bringing the same basic features as the long-running S60 version, plus adding in a few new tweaks to take advantage of the more powerful hardware. Available since last month for an introductory price of 7 EUR (about $9.50 USD), JoikuSpot Premium Linux Edition lets you share some of that extra 3G bandwidth with any WiFi-capable device and provides some very detailed status screens to help monitor your connections.

While software-based hotspot utilities don't give the same amount of flexibility as something like the Novatel MiFi, they do have their place for users who might not need mobile connectivity on a regular basis, or those who may own devices that lack integrated 3G hardware. Back in the day when I was using a Nokia N95-4, I used the Symbian version of JoikuSpot and it worked great except for the extreme battery drain.

See a few more images of those status screens after the break, and if anyone happens to have a data plan on their N900, give JoikuSpot a try and let us know how it works.
