Archos 7 Home Tablet available for pre-order at Amazon for $199.99

Archos_7_ht_amazon

Following news at the beginning of March that some retailers had started taking preorders in Europe, it looks like those of you in the US will also now have the opportunity to preorder the Archos 7 Home Tablet from Amazonir?t=pocketables 20&l=as2&o=1&a=B003COZM2C - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here, with other retailers likely to follow suit very soon. Currently Amazon only seems to have the more expensive 8GB model selling for $199.99. The 2GB version should be around $179 when it becomes available. An exact release date hasn't been specified but Archos has previously stated that the tablet should be shipping by the end of April.

They may not be the most powerful in terms of hardware, but early impressions of the Archos 7 HT and its big brother the Archos 8 HT have generally been positive with decent performance and impressive HD video capabilities cited as highlights. For the price, I think they represent very good value to enter the world of Android. And for those of us longing for the successor to the Archos 5 Android, we might not have to wait too long, with the company working on a new range of tablets for the summer.

  • Definitely looks attractive at that pricepoint! I’m tempted; even though I know what I’m getting haha.

    Quiet nice; quite nice.

  • dissapointed with archos since i bought my archos5 internet tablet… they made cool gadgets but lack support and updates. they just made the archos 5 then after 6 months later they announce the android tablet… 2 week after they announce the archos 9… WTF. and every new device they stop updating the later ones. now my archos is on ebay… never gonna buy archos devices again. (but i admit archos is good on watching videos)

your talking about the archos 5 internet media tablet. The archos 5 internet tablet is the one with android.

btw, they recently announced a optional firmware for said IMT that makes one able to run angström linux on it. Ok, so one loose permanent access to DRM protected content, but imo thats worth it.

and i think the support for the android archos 5 is still ongoing.
