Following news at the beginning of March that some retailers had started taking preorders in Europe, it looks like those of you in the US will also now have the opportunity to preorder the Archos 7 Home Tablet from Amazonir?t=pocketables 20&l=as2&o=1&a=B003COZM2C - for some reason we don't have an alt tag here, with other retailers likely to follow suit very soon. Currently Amazon only seems to have the more expensive 8GB model selling for $199.99. The 2GB version should be around $179 when it becomes available. An exact release date hasn't been specified but Archos has previously stated that the tablet should be shipping by the end of April.

They may not be the most powerful in terms of hardware, but early impressions of the Archos 7 HT and its big brother the Archos 8 HT have generally been positive with decent performance and impressive HD video capabilities cited as highlights. For the price, I think they represent very good value to enter the world of Android. And for those of us longing for the successor to the Archos 5 Android, we might not have to wait too long, with the company working on a new range of tablets for the summer.
