3G standby battery life on HTC EVO

Evo-3g-standby

A few days ago, I showed you what kind of battery life I'm getting with my HTC EVO in standby. I keep WiFi and 3G on at all times, but I'm almost always connected to WiFi because I work from home (i.e., I'm rarely away from my router).

Since WiFi is easier on the battery than 3G and some people might spend all day away from a wireless network, I decided to turn WiFi off last night and leave the EVO in standby to see what kind of 3G-only standby time I would get.

I ended up having to take a few screen shots and send an email but other than that, my EVO was completely undisturbed while connected to 3G. The result, as you can see from my battery usage graph above, is that the 3G connection drained 87% of my battery (I'm still using the 1750mAh Seidio) in about 15.5 hours. This works out to be about 5.6% battery drain per hour, which I don't think is too bad.
