How to check HTC EVO’s WiFi, 3G, and 4G speed

Evo-speedIf you've ever wondered how people are able to talk about what kinds of WiFi, 3G, and/or 4G speeds they're getting on the HTC EVO in exact numbers, here's a quick way to be able to join in the conversation without just being able to say "Mine is fast."

  1. Download Speedtest.net's Speed Test from Android Market. There are several speed test apps available there, but this one is the best. It's also the official Speedtest.net app.
  2. Connect to WiFi, 3G, or 4G on your EVO, depending on which connection speed you want to test.
  3. Launch the app and tap "Begin Test."

The best server is automatically chosen for you depending on your location/connection, but you can manually change it in the Settings tab. You can also change the display speed (kbps, Mbps, kB/s) and sort history there.

All of your previous tests are saved and accessible in the Results tab, where you can tap on any result and see more detailed information.

I've never seen blistering speeds on my EVO but then again, I still haven't been able to connect to 4G (an unresolved problem I've been having for nearly two weeks). The WiFi and 3G speeds I get are in line with what I see on my other devices, so I don't have any complaints.

What kinds of speeds are you getting?

Note: There are a lot of variables in play when testing your speed, so you will almost never get the same result twice, even if you run a second test as soon as the first one is done.
