How to quickly silence your HTC EVO 4G

Evo-silence-ringSince the HTC EVO doesn't have a hardware switch to instantly put the phone into silent mode, you may find it tedious to always have to tap Menu -> Settings -> Sound & display -> Sound profile just to turn the ringer off and then do it again to turn it back on.

That's why I keep a ringer mode widget on my home screen. There are many to choose from in Android Market, but my favorite is RingMode widget (free) by Stark Technology because it complements the EVO's interface (assuming you haven't disabled Sense).

Used in conjunction with ScreenModeWidget, which can disable the lock screen at will, it just takes a single tap on the screen to silence the EVO.

Here's how you can use RingMode widget to quickly toggle between the sound profiles (normal, vibrate, silent) on your HTC EVO:

  1. Install RingMode widget from Android Market.
  2. Tap the "+" button at the bottom of the EVO's home screen and tap Widget.
  3. Select Ringer Mode Setting from the list.
  4. Tap the widget once to go into vibrate mode. Tap it again to go into silent mode and again to return to normal mode.
