How to update your HTC EVO 4G

Htc-evo-updateEvery so often, HTC and/or Sprint will release an update for the HTC EVO 4G. Whether it's to address security issues, fix bugs, or add new features, these updates should generally be installed on your non-rooted EVO as soon as they become available.

The EVO will usually automatically notify you of an update, but you can always manually update if it doesn't.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Press the Menu button on the EVO.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and tap System updates.
  4. Tap Firmware update, Update PRL, and/or HTC software update. The EVO will immediately begin checking for firmware and PRL updates; tap Check now when looking for an HTC software update.
  5. If an update is found, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install.

Depending on the type of update, the EVO may restart. Unless it says otherwise, none of your data will be lost.
