HTC EVO 4G gets ready for Froyo, Android 2.2 source code is out

Evo-froyo-table_wmOrder up!

Well, almost. Maybe.

The Android 2.2 (Froyo) update that will "most likely" be given to the HTC EVO in the "second half of this year" has just taken a big step forward. The source code for the latest version of the mobile operating system was released today, which means that devs can really dig in and the OTA update we're really waiting for could show up as an alert in our notification bar soon.

HTC Sense will likely be the cause of any inordinate delays, but once the EVO does get the update, we have a lot to look forward to like a faster system, more robust/complete stock browser, and smoother performance. And who knows. Maybe a fix for the 30fps cap on 2D/3D games will be baked right in so we won't need to resort to rooting and flashing a custom kernel to remove it ourselves.

Thanks, Hal!
