Now entering the Android arena, Samsung Galaxy Tab

Out of the "not a total surprise" category comes a new 7-inch Android (not Bada) tablet from Samsung known as the Galaxy Tab, which was previously rumored as the S-Pad. Named accordingly due to the similarities with its tinier sibling, the Galaxy S smartphone, the TouchWiz-endowed Tab still remains mysterious, with only a limited bit of specs leaking from Samsung's Twitter feed.

Originating from the official South African Twitter page for Samsung, the Galaxy Tab has 3G broadband, a front-facing camera, and a high-res TFT screen all riding shotgun to what presumably is a Snapdragon processor. Memory specs aren't known at this time, along with whether the device will actually function as a cell phone, thanks to the matching "Phone" icon it shares with the Galaxy S.

With Samsung possibly joining HP and Apple as the big guns in the tablet game, it should be able to lean on its past successes and mild failures, but either way it has proven it's a player. If the Galaxy Tab is any indication of what Samsung has in store, those of us waiting for more choices in the small tablet category should have a plethora of options in the next six months.
