Too bad you can't play any of it on your HTC EVO 4G without transcoding each one to a format that Android can play out of the box. Sure, you may have found some media player apps in Android Market and elsewhere with DivX support, but none of them are very good.
Media playback has always been one of Android's weaknesses, so I'm thrilled by the news of an upcoming app called RockPlayerBase. The app is currently in beta and of course has already been leaked and uploaded onto various file-sharing sites (Google is your friend).
RockPlayerBase supports all of the video codecs and containers mentioned above (as well as RMVB), which means that just about any video you have on hand can be transferred to your EVO's microSD card and played as is. Everything I've thrown at it so far has been played with no problem and quite beautifully, I might add.
The playback interface is very clean, you can view file information and select aspect ratios, and most importantly, videos are smooth, audio is in sync, and everything looks great (depending on the original quality of the file, of course).
Some video types play better than others, but for the most part I don't think anyone could not be impressed with RockPlayerBase. And it's still only in beta!
