The new information states that the upcoming tablet will be named the Samsung Galaxy Tape (instead of Tab), possessing a 7-inch Super AMOLED touch screen display and running Android 2.2 FroYo. The hardware powering proceedings will be a 1.2GHz ARM Cortex-A8 based processor, which I presume to be of Samsung's own design similar to that featured in its Galaxy S smartphone. Other rumored specs include 16GB of inbuilt storage, support for microSD cards up to 32GB, a large 4000mAh battery, and a weight of around 13 ounces. The possible release date is quoted as being around September of this year.
Although we can't verify any of this new information, it all sounds very plausible and it's exciting that Samsung might bring some of its own unique technology to the tablet table. The prospect of a tablet with an outdoor-friendly Super AMOLED screen, a headlining Cortex-A8 processor, and FroYo make for a very tantalizing combination indeed.
