Chat with Dell Streak UI developer today at 3 p.m. (EDT)

Delldroid Although many people are understandably disappointed that the Dell Streak is currently shipping in the UK with Android 1.6 (Donut), the company says that its custom UI makes it almost as good as 2.1 (Eclair). Kevin Andrew, product manager for Dell, told Wired's Gadget Lab that "the only feature that is missing versus Eclair is the live wallpapers.”

This isn't really true, but it's an interesting statement that makes the rumor about the Streak being released in the US with Android 2.1 even more unlikely. It's clear, however, that Dell is proud of its customizations.

To that end, MyDellMini has arranged a chat with Dell's user experience manager for mobile products and invites everyone to participate in the conversation. The chat will be held today, July 12th, at 3 p.m. Easter Daylight Time (that's 9 a.m. here in Hawaii) in #streakdevchat (IRC) and mydellmini.com/chat (Java). I'm not sure how long the chat will be, but it will be a great opportunity to learn more about the UI. Although there's no guarantee that anyone's direct questions will be answered or that suggestions will be taken seriously, the chat will be a good place for prospective buyers to get feedback from current users.
