Bugs and problems in Android 2.2 (Froyo) update for HTC EVO

Evo-froyo-bugsSince we've already got a running list of all the new features and changes in the Froyo update for the HTC EVO and the comments are becoming unmanageable in the "living up to your expectations" post, let's put together a list of all the bugs, problems, and strange behavior we're experiencing here.

I don't think there's anything that everyone across the board is experiencing, as it seems that there are always people who don't have the problems that others are having, but certain issues do appear to be more common.

I've started a list below based on what I've personally seen on my EVO and what people have reported in the comments here on G&E, but I'll continue to update it with anything you guys think should be added.

Remember, these are not bugs/problems that have been confirmed or acknowledged by HTC. They are simply the problems that EVO users have experienced after updating to Android 2.2 (Froyo), including problems with apps. Your mileage may vary.

  • Battery life is worse. Some people have said that it stabilizes and gets back to normal after a few days of use. Note that the official update resets many of the settings that you have may have changed to improve battery life, so you may want to run through the battery tips again to make sure you have everything set up the way you want it.
  • Flash video playback in the browser is choppy.
  • Stock keyboard lags or force closes.
  • 4G radio won't turn on.
  • Screen timeout automatically resets back to lowest interval.
  • YouTube doesn't play all videos.
  • Swype may have to be uninstalled and reinstalled.
  • Duplicate Facebook birthdays appear in Calendar.
  • Sense home screen takes a long time to load.
  • Scrolling in stock browser is slower. This is likely due to Flash content.
  • Some third-party chargers don't charge the phone anymore.
  • Test mode and debug mode are no longer accessible.
  • Gallery app is slower.
  • Streaming audio apps (SiriusXM, Slacker, etc.) aren't working properly.
  • Music doesn't resume after being paused/interrupted by navigation and notifications.
  • AAC+ and eAAC+ aren't being decoded correctly, resulting in poor sound quality.
  • Flip-over to mute ringer feature has been removed.
  • Camera and/or Camcorder aren't working. Many users have reported that the third-party LED Light app (if you have it) is the cause; uninstalling it resolves the issue.
  • Screen sometimes gets stuck in landscape orientation.
  • Messages app lags.
  • Gmail accounts are not syncing in real-time; unreliable email syncing in general.
  • Browser crashes more frequently. This is likely due to Flash content.
  • Voice-to-text isn't working.
  • Ringtones and notification sounds are randomized.
  • Touchscreen is less sensitive/responsive.
  • Unlock slider lags.
  • Stock music player isn't working properly.
  • Phone app occasionally freezes and won't allow incoming calls to be answered.
  • Confirmation message after deleting photo in landscape mode is upside down.
  • Previously nstalled apps don't show up in "Downloads" in Android Market until after a new app is installed.
  • WiFi is disabled when phone is plugged in and/or unplugged.

Anything else?

For what it's worth, I've only seen a few of these things on my EVO.

When I installed, all my ringtones and notification tones were randomized. I’m still setting them all back since each app had a custom one that I set. Battery life is worse

  • my battery life was worse until i completely drained and then fully recharged my battery 2 times. to drain, i put all radios on (wifi, gps, 4g, bluetooth), set the screen to not timeout and turned brightness all the way up and then for the coup de grace turned the camera on and left it alone for about an hour. once it shuts off, you can still turn it back on once or twice more to make sure its fully drained. after that, charge the battery fully while its off. i did this twice and my battery life is back to how it was with 2.1, which wasn’t great but completely tolerable.

if you have a second battery and the seidio multi function recharger thing, it helps a lot.

  • I haven’t seen any of these issues other than the battery life has gone back to being like it was when I bought it (poor).

The only youtube issue I’ve seen, is I’ve been getting a lot more “can’t view on mobile device” responses lately, but I think it’s youtube.

Only one I’m having is that my internet browser goes to the last page viewed when I open it instead of the browser…still looking for setting for dat…. everything else is good to go :)

  • The streaming audio problem is the worst. Pandora sounds like an AM radio. The decoding problem is not unique to the Evo; Froyo introduced the stagefright decoder which completely broke aac streaming. Also my swype intermittently stops working; toggling the input method seems to fix it though.

  • I cant even get Pandora or espn radio app to load. My app-killer is not as effective at all. Last night while making calls the listeners on the other end said they couldnt understand a word I said….I supposedly sounded like a robotic demon. This problem went away when I restarted the phone….

What I did NOT notice while testing was that the update set my ringer to zero. So, I missed a couple calls I was waiting for. Bummer that! Also, the update changed my wallpaper to “live” Maps.

Yeah, once in a while Sense takes a moment to load. No big deal, though, because it only happened a couple times.

Flash for embedded videos is not always tracking properly, but is generally okay. In all fairness, that happens on my netbook sometimes, too.

The touch screen is much less sensitive now, which isn’t really a bad change for me.

The battery seems to last about the same, which, for my normal use, is still at about 65% at the end of the day — GPS, Wi-FI and e-mail are always on and I always read a few articles and browse a little on the phone. In fact, my EVO is so comfortable for me to read that I find myself reading more and more news and blogs on it every day.

Voice commands work perfectly, as does voice to text. The camera is fine, although I have not looked for any new settings yet. And, there have been no changes in mail — it’s always refreshed when I look.

Anyway, there were mostly all very positive changes that we all know about and no specific problems that I have noticed yet.

  • When using the slider unlock, it now lags with Froyo. To prevent the lag and choppiness, you have to tap first, then slide down.

    Reply
  • My Pandora doesn’t sound any worse, but notifications like a text, mail, or navigation prompts will now pause my music but it won’t resume it after the prompts.

This is VERY annoying. I’ve been using my Evo in my car a lot to listen to music and get navigation at the same time. It used to work perfectly. Now I have to either mute my navigation, or exit and resume my music after I see that the next direction won’t come for a while.

This actually makes the upgrade not worth it to me as Pandora + navigation was the primary reason I switched from my iPhone.

My problem is my lock screen. I have it set to require a combo to unlock. But since the update, it will randomly stop requiring a combo. I check the settings and they say the combo requirement is in place. But the phone does not challenge me when I pull it out of sleep. If I reboot the phone, the combo challenge works again for a while. Then (seemingly) randomly just stops requiring a combo again until I reboot.

As a security-conscious person, this disturbs me greatly. Anyone else seeing this?

I’m seeing a number of these, including the 4G, YouTube, browser, and battery issues. Overall, while the OS seems snappier, there are a number of areas where it grinds to a near halt. I’m pretty disappointed by this update.

  • After update to 2.2 I tried to check if the GSM search replaced the CDMA search using “*#*#4636#*#*” but it no longer functions. How can this now be checked?

Also what should be checked to be sure settings were not changed during the update. I accidentally found that gTalk was set to auto search.

  • Dunno if this is a “glitch” or not, but there is now a battery icon at the top of the screen. It didn’t used to be there, I don’t want it there, and I can’t figure out how to remove it.

Also, gifs are WAY slower now.

I have a giant aftermaket battery so I haven’t noticed battery issues, but for all the talk of Froyo being “faster,” I haven’t noticed much being faster.

Special note——-Youtube gives me an error for a lot of videos (including all the videos my brother records from his Droid), but if I continue to try playing the video, eventually it works, usually after 3 or 4 tries.

I get business voicemails as .wav files in my email. I was able to listen to them witn 2.1, but with 2.2 it “Unable to play this type of audio file”

  • I’ve got almost every one of these!

    Reply
  • This is the biggest reason I would love to revert back to 2.1 (1.47), the audio issues are terrible. SiriusXM will just sit there and skip around and then start looping the same song segment over and over until the channel is changed, then it starts all over again after a few minutes.

To be fair, like you mentioned, the problem is not unique to the EVO. My Nexus One with Froyo does the same thing.

    Reply
  • I haven’t seen any issues either.

    Reply
  • That GSM setting was supposedly fixed in one of the prior updates, and it affected only a small number of phones.

    Reply
  • I’m having major camcorder issues. It will crash at launch and then my CPU will bury at 99% until the battery is flat gone. If it doesn’t crash it will be completely dead: the record button doesn’t work and the menu vanishes. This is more than a bug. The functionality is completely lost.

And all just in time for my trip to visit family. Yay!

  • Wish I could rollback, Froyo wasn’t worth it for me.

    1. The “input edit box” control used by all web browsers has changed it’s behavior. If I am using a ‘webmail’ site and reply to an email, it takes the body of the email I am replying to into the edit box and then puts the cursor in that edit box. It USED to put the cursor at the top of the edit box. That way I can start typing in my reply. NOW it puts the cursor at the bottom of the input box, so I have to manually move the cursor to the top (if replying to an email with 500 lines, this is 500 presses of the “up arrow”). This makes webmail unusable. Effects default browser, Dolphin, Opera, etc

    2. Pandora will only play the first minute or two of a song. I don’t think this is a Pandora bug, as the symptom occurred immediately after updating to Froyo. I’ve heard of other streaming issues, so perhaps this is related.

    3. Browser doesn’t always recognize when the content doesn’t fit on the screen and therefore should allow scrolling. Sometimes it simply won’t allow scrolling of content, you have to do a quick pinch-zoom to get it to recalculate and then it will allow scrolling.

    4. Sometimes when trying to go to the SenseUI home screen it popups up a “Loading…” window for about 10 seconds. That is new (and annoying) with Froyo.

    5. Get ForceClose message complaining about multi-touch keyboard every 10 seconds or so. Had to uninstall the new multi-touch keyboard to even make the phone usable.

    6. Scrolling in webpages is god-awful slow! I guess Flash is to blame, but still…

I don’t know whether it’s Froyo itself to blame, or HTC/Sprint’s implementation of it. I miss my original stock ROM where the Unrevoked app worked ;)

  • Froyo is way worse than 2.1. I want 2.1 back! I have most of the issues mentioned on the list.

Pandora used to sound great and now its AM quality. Google really messed up this one… I don’t know what all the fuss was about.

My battery is barely lasting 14 hours and before it was lasting up to two days.

Froyo is very disappointing. Also after the update my phone has crashed 3 times.

Same here. Ringtones were random. Its crazy, but fun. Interesting to see the songs that played for people. LOL.
And I’ve got .3 aka unofficial.

  • That is just weird.. So far everything seems good for me. Then again the only apps i have installed on my phone has been google made appz. What if you all tried clearing the cache and setting your phone back to factory default and installing the appz again?

  • In the stock music player, all my songs now show to be by “unknown artist” and have the same album cover. Tried deleting all music and reloading, did not help.

    Reply
  • My 2.2 symptoms are overall dramatic slowness/sluggishness/unresponsiveness of the UI across the board when 4G is enabled (and also when WiFi is enabled, but a little less so). The web browser is almost unusably sluggish even on 3G (scrolling, menus, everything even when no network traffic is involved). At first I thought this might be due to Flash, which was previously inactive. However, when you set the Enable Plugin setting to “On Demand” (or whatever it is), it is still extremely sluggish all the time.

I’ve also noticed that on many web pages, I can’t scroll down until I zoom slightly in. After that, it will scroll, but agonizingly slowly. Clearly there are some big problems.

I’ve also noticed that when I check the battery usage, there is almost zero idle time. Something like 97% of the time is “Android System”. I think something is burning CPU… That accounts for the battery life as well.

  • My has been locking up on me and the aplication phone is locking at random. My phone will ring and I can’t pick up at times, and since I use google voice, there are times where I can’t see any of the contacts or have them show on caller ID. Seriously thinking in a master reset…

  • I live in the DC area, so we don’t officially have 4G yet, but it is available on some towers. Specifically I can get 4G around where I work but not at home. Consequently I only turn on 4G when I’m out to lunch and don’t have hurry back to the office. Before Froyo, when I turned off 4G it would go back to 3G automatically. Yesterday was the first time I tried since upgrading. I turned off 4G and I didn’t get the 3G icon on the top bar. I waited a minute and then tried browsing, but I had no connectivity as I suspected. I tried toggling wifi on and off, and that got me 3G again.

  • Nope, it’s new. I love this feature, as it combines all the goodness of protecting screen from accidentally unlocking with the convenience of not having to put in the code if I want to return to the phone after a very short while (which I frequently do), but still retaining the security of having an unlock code.

I updated Monday night from 2.1 to 2.2 with the official OTC HTC .6 release, but I had to do it manually because the “HTC Software Update” stopped working sometime late last week. I pressed “check now” and it said ‘checking’ but it would just spin indefinitely. I figured it was just the servers getting pounded by people clicking “check now”, but it still isn’t working a week later after updating to the official .6 Froyo release. What gives?

Also, like many others, my battery life is absolutely horrendous after this update. My girlfriend is having the same battery issues too. Her phone doesn’t have the “check now” issue that I mentioned above, and she was able to update her phone via the “HTC Software Update” like normal so I wonder if manually updating caused some issues.

You know I rooted my Hero and run it overclocked at 768 mghz and it really works almost as well as my EVO and it’s been that way for a couple of months. I upgraded early to .3 and now did a fresh install to .6 with wipe. I use “my back up pro” and all I have to do with it to get back to “before” is enter google data and other email credentials, wifi, bluetooth pairings, and a few errant apps and swiftkey about 25 minutes of effort. It grinds while it is restoring (in background) and requires 2 more reboots but I am not invovled. I had some of the issues listed with .3 without a wipe but with clean install and cable fed data phone good again. Having built and run overclocked gaming machines a good clean install of os, drivers certain apps, cures a lot of glitches….in fact when I root I am going to clean install some of the key apps and not use back ups that have overlaid updates. All this makes me think root the EVO too and run a custom with overclock! Clean and fresh about hours worth of effort. Man my EVO is now working so much smoother with 2.2 .6. Need to go check out xda.

Battery life is fine for, if not better, for me, I can get about 24 hours or so with moderate use. Although I did need to go through a few complete discharge/recharges to let the battery meter recalibrate. (NOTE it is BAD to let your battery hit 0% or even 5%, so once it hits 10%, RECHARGE)

I installed netarchy’s rooted stock .6 ROM, then restored by apps, and some system settings with Titanium Backup. Some bugs I am seeing:

    * Theres a smallish freeze when slide-unlocking, unless i tap the screen and then unlock.

    * Occasionally when i back out of an app, I’m brought to an EMPTY home screen. Hitting home or sliding left/right corrects it.

    * Market updates!!!! They will download to 100%, but never install!!!!

Otherwise, I think everything is MUCH snappier and smoother. For slow webpages, you people (who are rooted) should use a hosts file!!! (/system/etc/hosts), it blocks all ads, including flash ads!

  • My camcorder doesn’t work. My camera seems fine. Using the camcorder slows the phone a lot and I can’t stop recording (it doesn’t really start recording, but pretends to).

  • I have bought a giant aftermarket battery for all my Android phones since the G1 because I listen to a ton of streaming radio.

Now Froyo makes radio that USED to sound good instead sound like AM radio in a tunnel?! It’s awful! I use my phone mostly for internet radio, and now I don’t have it. LAME. I don’t want Froyo. It’s done more harm than good—-if it’s faster anywhere, I can’t tell (so is it “really” faster?), and it’s just not worth it.

Right after the upgrade I did this manually and WHAM!…the apps were no longer installed and *something* was on the SD card in their place. Fortunately, I reinstalled all three , but this time they weren’t moveable! After hard reboot, I was able to move them with no issues.

The Facebook App was updated around the same time Froyo for the Evo was released — the developers at Facebook have acknowledged that there is a bug that results constant data consumption, significantly reducing battery life.

It seems that for a lot of people, the poor battery life isn’t actually Froyo, but the errant facebook app run amok.

Like when I pick up the phone and look at it while I am standing, it goes to landscape mode even though the phone is maybe 20 degrees from due north while I hold it in my left hand. You may want to check “Talk” in you apps menu, the GoogleTalk application is defaulted to being logged in and online with the Froyo update. Along with that is Sprint Zone. You will have to go into it and hit Menu to reduce the hourly update it does that is probably also wasting a lot of your battery life.

  • Finally a Froyo bug article that I can post on. First of all the froyo update has caused alot more problems than rewards, just to get that out of the way. OKay the messaging lagging is a big deal to me..I am a frequent texter and the fact that it lags when you type and when opening and closing messages is embarrassing..My palm centro can run laps over this messaging app. Another thing that is very annoying is how they enabled the double sided rotate on the phone..i use my phone alot when i wake up and before i go to bed..and the fact that it changed to landscape on both sides frequency kinda bothered me. But other then that i really dont see any ground breaking changes to the froyo, besides the internet being faster, and the o.s snappier.

  • Many of the things on the list are not real bugs but temporary problems that can be fixed by rebooting the phone. Some of them are legit bugs though. The problem is we have a bunch of people who find a problem and don’t check for a fix, they just call it a bug and move on.

For me the Camera’s all work, the battery is about the same or a bit better, Gmail syncs fine. It seems that some people are having temporary problems and just blaming it on Froyo without investigating. For instance, I have not found a fix or work around for the XM/streaming audio looping bug. It may be a problem with the Apps, but it is definitely a problem since Froyo released on the EVO.

My general impression is that my Phone is much faster and much more stable with Froyo.

  • 1.I’ve seen a huge battery life drop. It use to last me a day and half now I’ll be lucky if it lasts me through the day.

2.The original time/date/city/weather widget it won’t update by itself. When you go into setting and turn the update automatically on it warns you that this service may result in additional charges from the wireless provider. Which it’s unlimited on sprint. You click ok. well it doesn’t update and then back in setting the update automatically is unchecked. I’ve tried a dozen time and does the same thing.

3.The sensitivity of the touch screen is killing me. I feel like I have to slam the screen to get anything to work.

4.My internet any type of browsering is so slow now. Did a speed test and its like having dialup again. Not even half a meg download. Where before i was up at 1.6 meg

5.The streaming music really sucks. I use XiiaLive Lite. Awesome app I highly recomend it, free of course. Now if it would just stop acting up.

6.Force close random on random apps, even sense apps….

  • As stated in the title and the post, these are bugs *and other problems* that EVO users have experienced after updating to Froyo.

  • my not rooted Evo is running great. No problems to report after the official froyo update. My battery is going over 2days with 20% battery still left. That is after 1:30hr Conference call, web browsing, playing Mp3s, listening to the radio, downloading appz, playing games, tweetering, and running multiple benchmarks for 30min. I have WIFI and GPS enable. My Linpack score is 40,099 MFlops and Quadrant standard is 1350 with an avg of 1300. I did the battery tweeks from this site plus disable google talk from auto starting.

  • I haven’t seen most of the problems listed here since I upgraded a few days ago. Here is what I have seen:

Battery life – last night was the first time I’ve actually ran out during a single day with stock battery. I was taking some video and pictures and doing other things during the day, so not a big surprise.

YouTube doesn’t play all videos – I haven’t seen this, but Sprint TV channels are ‘unavailable’ extremely often for anything other than Live shows.

Lots of general issues with Flash and the Dolphin HD browser. Pizza Hut’s site was so bad that I canceled my order and went to Domino’s.

My 3rd party car charger still works, but it takes some wiggling sometimes to get it right. I had this problem with a rental car before 2.2, my own car after 2.2.

Phone app occasionally freezes and won’t allow incoming calls to be answered – This has been the biggest problem that I’ve had so far. When doing navigation or listening to music, if I get a call, the Phone app crashes and I miss the call (it doesn’t ring, just freezes / grey screens). I’ve needed to reboot the phone to get it working again (3 times in a few days).

I had some slightly different issues when plugging the phone into a car charger or the stock USB charger. The phone’s screen keeps coming on after I plug it in, even if I turn it off, it will pop back on a few times. Often I just have to let it time out.

  • I just got my microHDMI output cable finally. It works well enough so far for videos (other than cutting off the first 1-3 seconds of video/sound).

But the slideshow isn’t showing up on the TV. I know that you can’t show normal photos one at a time and that it only works in slideshow mode. So far doing slideshow from the gallery with pictures from the SD card and facebook both result in no HDMI output.

I’m pretty bummed that powerpoint and other presentations don’t work with the HDMI out. But at least having slideshow work would let me share pictures.

  • I’ve had absolutely no problems. It’s not fixing my FreedomPro keyboard issue, and doesn’t appear to support the keyboard naively, as I’d hoped. Note, I’ve not tested everything, do not use the device heavily, so YMMV.

Nearest I can tell, seems most of the issues are related to 3rd party apps. As one of the other comments suggested, reboot after an update should be expected. (Not a bad idea to do one before either.)

  • In-Call Text Notification Too Loud:

Does anyone know how to turn off the notification while taking a call, or at least turn it down? I’ll be talking on the phone, then someone texts me and the notification goes off and it’s about 100 decibles louder than it needs to be! I’ve changed a few things in the notification settings but it doesn’t fix the problem. This only happens when I’m talking to someone else.

  • Mike, try menu – settings – sound – volume , you can set the volume of ringtone, media, alarm, and notifications individually.

  • I’ve already posted some of my observations, but have noticed my battery life is worse now than before. I’m using the stock battery. I bought one of the Splash Intense batteries that Jenn wrote about earlier, and that helps me when away from my normal charging points. Simply unplugging my EVO in the house, walking out to the car, and the battery has dropped 5% already. That’s with the screen locked & turned off.

Just now, my typing is lagging to the point that I have to keep pausing. I’m runing on wi-fi with 30mbps download & 2mbps up speed.

My Bluetooth works fine now for phone, but not playing back voice messages or other non-phone audio.

But silly me, I still love using it.

  • My battery has gone back to being borderline shitty. I can surh the internet for 10 minutes and all of a sudden my battery is down by 10%. After the sent out the update on Eclair it was def better. Now that I have Froyo its back to sucking and Ive made sure all my syncing options are back to what they were prior to Froyo.

  • Update: idle battery consumption is hugely improved, and since that’s the state my phone is often in (a typical day is a few calls, some Internet browsing, and a few texts), I’m extremely happy with it.

Currently at 41 hours since last plugged in and still ~15% remaining. This phone just got a new lease on life. Thanks Google!

  • When killing apps using Advanced Task Killer, I’ve noticed that 10-20 apps are automatically started by themselves. This can happen within 10-15 minutes… all without even touching the phone. This might be one of the sources for the poor battery life after the updated. Someone suggested removing ATK but that did not help.

  • Yeah….I lost tethering. Thank god I’ve got slow-ass free wifi at the hotel I’m at or I wouldn’t be able to complain about it on here. Researching now to see what a possible fix would be (and yes I pay the extra 10 a month for hotspot and tethering). I’ll keep you informed if I learn more.

  • after updating, I immediately noticed all my emails deleted from my pop3 accounts. Since then, I’ve tested scenarios. I also get the emails on my laptop, which is set to delete them from the server. Once they are deleted off the server, they are deleted off the phone with the next sync – read or not. I had emails I wanted to save on the phone for a while and would like that ability back.

  • PDANet is a pretty good program to tether internet with, recommended to me by my sister’s friend who happened to have the EVO.

It took me 5 minutes to figure out, but in the end it worked out fine.

(I had to get the EVO to ignore the sprint based tethering software because it wouldn’t work.)

  • Hey Ron, thanks for responding. I actually tried that and it doesn’t seem to make any difference. I’ve even tried to adjust the volume rocker the split second after I get a text, thinking that I could adjust the notification volume that way, the same way it works when any media is on, but it didn’t work.

The text notification is fine the rest of the time… it’s just ridiculously loud when I’m taking a call. Are you have the same issue?

  • I am not able to download paid apps. but can download free apps.

  • Well, I got a new SD card finally. But when I copied everything off of my 8 GB card onto the new 32 GB card today, I ran into problems after booting. My notifications were all ‘unset’ which ended up having them play random music (entire songs for a single notification). I had to go back in and manually re-set all of the notification, ringtones, etc.

I did confirm on the Android forums that the 2.2 update broke slideshow HDMI out. There also appear to be some issues with the video out as well since 2.2. Last night when I was testing it, my YouTube app broke and would not start. I had to do a ton of reboots because each time it was the only thing that would get the video working again after a pause/notification/stop etc.

  • 1. Cannot answer or make calls with out phone force closing.
    2. XM Radio skips then loops same song over and over.
    3. Cannot select contacts to send texts to without it taking 2 minutes to load names.
    4. Phone constantly reboots itself.
    5. battery life is way worse
    6. Practically all other apps force close when trying to run them
I waited for the OTA update and hate my phone now, I can’t answer when someone calls and I don’t get most of my texts anymore… grrr

Just like to add that I have an Htc Evo and just realized this morning that m second and third emails are not synicing.. I called Sprint, the CR was actually helpful and said a patch was on its way. I decided to call HTC direct, mistake they had no idea and make me do a factory reset, I spent 2hrs re-doing everything, a lot of apps that used the sd card failed such as cashbok. Nightmare, the only answer is wait till they send a patch. Don’t bother doing anything you will throw your phone against the wall. I also noticed something else strange, someone texted a long text and I received the second half before receiving the first half!!

my friendstream app stopp working after 2.2 update,it wouldn’t update , and my atk seems to lag killing apps but i’m considering uninstalling it. i’m conflicted about this beause the android community seems split down the middle about atk on 2.2 but maybe you guys can help me with this decision.

  • I updated to 2.2 and damn near every problem listed above is something that is going wrong with my phone, my videos record choppy therefore they play back choppy, sometimes i cant slide the phone to recieve incoming calls, sometimes i select contacts and blank screens appear, my battery life is 3x as bad as it was before, no matter how many times i kill apps or even manually go into settings and stop apps from running they start to restart themselves, (even third party apps) my ringtones never randomize but my alarm clock isnt consistant, took my phone a ridiculous amount of time to charge through my computer with the usb that came in the box, my touchscreen is less sensitive so now it takes long to send messeges, oh and the worst thing is that my email settings wont verify, i cant send outgoing email anymore, BS…

Turning on the Hotspot often breaks 4G connectivity since the update. This is one I hadnt seen because I havent paid sprint to use the Hotspot feature. A coworker came to me – since the 2.2 update she couldnt use her 4G and hotspot at the same time, 4G would disconnect with the hotspot on.

Because work was ultra busy yesterday, I didnt have time to fiddle much with it, but I did figure out that turning on 4G first. then the hotspot it would hold. The other way around, it just wouldnt connect. And got great speeds. Unfortunately, it wasnt a permanent fix.

She didnt have this issue before the update. She even did a factory reset, same issue.

Normally, I would say she needed to change her wifi channel to 1 to avoid conflicting with 4G frequencies. But she already had.

Ive seen a few threads on this issue, like http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/94/p/5347/24035.aspx , but no one can seem to figure it out …

  • These issues have come up since upgrading last weekend.

I’ve had issues with my “end call” button not working on the screen. It just hangs. It’s like it doesn’t register my touch. This is particularly annoying when trying to end a voicemail message.

I’ve also had issues browsing when moving between pages on a site, the screen will just go white. I have to reload the page from my bookmarks, because going back just closes it.

  • My issues is that my notification sound plays when i am on the phone talking and i can not hear the other person or shut it off it does its thing til it is done!! and a laughing baby hurts the ear i tell ya!!

  • Reuben, I’ve had the phone reboot while using GPS Navigation, Phone, and charging before. I’ve seen others report this as well. I think that most people have agreed that it is an overheating issue because charging the phone heats it up a good bit.

  • steve gaudreau, I was able to fix my Friend Stream by removing my facebook account from the phone in Accounts and Sync and then re-adding it. I think that this can also be resolved by going to Applications->Manage Applications->All->Friend Stream and Friend Stream Widget and doing Clear Cache and Clear Data on both of them.

  • 201Concept, that sounds like the typical data caching problem. You will want to follow the instructions in the link that I posted above for doing a Factory Reset of your EVO.
