Official Android 2.2 update (3.26.651.6) for HTC EVO hits the air
Based on the number of emails that came in while I was playing with my 8-month-old daughter in this wonderful placed called the Offline, most of you already know that the official over-the-air Froyo update (version 3.26.651.6) for the HTC EVO is now available. For everyone else, it's time to hit Menu -> Settings -> System Updates -> HTC software update on your phone so you can see what all the fuss is about.
The update is not available to those eager beavers who manually applied the leaked 3.26.651.3 file this weekend, but HTC says they're working to get us "back on the official track" and will have more news in the next few days.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!
I am patiently waiting for the “eager beavers” fix.. 2.2 leak is nice but my GPS doesn’t work so hurry up and patch us already.
I’m updating as I type this
Figures. I waited all weekend and finally gave up and installed the leaked version an hour before the official release! Oh well… Leaked version is working fine. The fixes must be minor.
How can I tell if I have flash player 10.1 ? I can’t seem toe find it in my phone
Woootz! Good things DO come to those who wait! A-Wooohooo!
And we have lift-off! There goes my evening hehe.
For anybody who’s wondering the version I got ended in .6
I decided to check just before going to bed…and there it was! Wasn’t expecting it to be there…so of course I had to stay up for it to finish and to play with it. Hehe…had to figure out how to do voice dialing now that it works with bluetooth. (finally)
Go to settings >Applications >Manage Applications and look for Adobe Flash Player under ‘All’
I am updating as I type. So excited!
Update is on the download!!
Got it here. The notice (finally) came automatically. I downloaded and tested a few things. Everything seems to work perfectly.
First thing I noticed is that the overall speed of everything seems to be much faster. Also, Wi-Fi works better — goes farther.
I’ll know more later, but it looks great!
Got my Froyo on! How do I start to download/transfer apps to my sd card?
So I want to update, but I dont want to loose root. Mostly because I want to keep my wireless tethering. Now I know that the Frito update brings wireless tethering, but does sprint block it? Does anybody know? Thank you.
Awww dang – I should have waited. Ah well, HTC taught me a lesson!
To transfer apps to the sd card, go to settings>applications. In each application, there’s a button to transfer it to the SD card, although it’s greyed out on most of mine.
Is there a list or table of features that were improved and added? I’m pretty optimistic but there has to be more significant features than a $1 flashlight. My Evo does seem a bit snapier but it’s still devouring the battery life, no improvement on my phone there. Thanks.
Ps. Still love my Evo. :)
I just went to settings/sys updates and it told me there are no updates available for my phone.
Yeah, I updated early…and apparently I can’t reflash back to an earlier firmware so I can put this update on, just tried. Says bootloader version is wrong. Argh. Ah, well…guess I’m now at HTC’s mercy for whatever bug fixes are in the final one whenever they decide to patch us early adopting goofs!
I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced a weird issue since getting 2.2 When I press someone’s picture in both the People app and Google Talk a phone icon shows up twice even if I have only one number for them. When I select the second phone icon a option comes up asking me to select an application to complete the action…problem?? I hope not! Help!
OK- after writing that, I restarted and then checked again and – sure enough – I got the message it was available. So …15 minutes later – I am in Froyo land! …and good to go.
Yay Froyyoooo! Just watched a full episode of South Park on their website finally! Yay Flash! My phone’s on speed! For all you eager early downloads, it just goes to show, patience is a virtue.. Anyways, I guess now that I have it I can get back to life and not check on the status daily! Enjoy!
I’ve been screwing around with 2.2 for awhile and I disabled the censor on push to talk, messed with the new widgets, and noticed wifi is a lot faster (too lazy to goto a 4g area). So far pretty pleased, but the wait wasn’t worth it. Does anyone know if the 30fps cap is gone?
awesome…! im on froyo here in indiana! Hulu aint working what gives yo???? It says it isn’t compatible. Anyone else getting same error?
Hulu has blocked flash enabled mobile devices from accessing it. There used to be a workaround but they have blocked that too since. I guess we’re gonna have to hope for the Hulu Plus app to be ported from the iphone and ipad :(
You might try re-installing the maps upgrade, I had an issue with an earlier patch and once I re-installed everything started working again. Please find out what us “eager beavers” are missing for I am in fear of touching my phone because it may explode! ……NOT!
damn… that blows..! other than that Froyo is the sheeet..! phone is running great.! Thanks HTC/sprint!
There is already a link to this in the post, but here it is again: http://www.goodandevo.net/2010/08/new-features-and-changes-in-android-22-froyo-update-for-htc-evo.html
I think its because Hulu videos now run html5 instead of flash
Ok, i thought i would post my personal findings with froyo here, for feedback.
Things I have noticed with Froyo (official) update:
1. Scrolling and moving apps on homescreen is definitely smoother, and the phone handles Live wallpapers much better now.
2. I ran Fps2D to see if the framerate issue is fixed. The Evo is still locked at 30fps. However, I did notice something interesting. The phone is pushing and hitting over 30fps a lot more often than it did with 2.1. Now about 2 or 3 times every second, it would hit 40 or even 50 fps for a split second, where as before, it would only hit it maybe once every 2 seconds. This may be the cause of the improved scrolling and performance. I dont know if this is do to froyo working better with framerate, or maybe HTC experimenting for a possible fix, or something.
3. Wifi Range is further increased. But there seems to be a downside to this. I have wireless N in my house, and when im connected to wifi, it seems to drain my battery faster than 3g, and just about as fast as 4g. I dont know if im doing something wrong or whats going on.
4. As far as the improved 720p video recording, I cant really see a difference in playback on the EVO itself, however playing the video on a computer seems to look better than before.
5. Gaming seems to have improved. I tested out “Lets Golf” from the gameloft EVO games, and it runs smoother, and doesnt skip at all, where as with 2.1, there would occasionally be a slight hiccup. Have yet to see a hiccup in froyo!
6. this is a very minor thing, but when you go to add a widget, (mine was the HTC clock widget) the left arrow indent outline is absent, where the right one is present.
Anyone else notice other things that havent been mentioned anywhere?
Overall, the phone just seems to be faster and perform better and snappier than before, making it even more awesome! I am very happy having froyo, and I think it was worth the wait! EVO ROCKS!
I am on in RI/MA and still have not gotten the update. Anyone else still mashing the check now button for no good reasons.
I have restarted twice. W… T… F?
I’ve noticed a few other people having this problem, but wanted to see if it’s widespread:
I’m running the unrEVOked3 root on my evo, but didn’t try the leaked update this weekend.
last night I got notice of the OTA for froyo and downloded. However, when I try to install it goes from the cute little unpacking the box screen to a Not So Cute triangle with an exclamation point. It just hangs there at that point and I have to do a battery pull to restart.
Is anyone else who rooted through unrEVOked3 having this problem? Any ideas on a fix?
How does this show you that patience is a virtue? Has anyone figured out what us early adopters are missing out on?
It is not, I believe.
how do you do voice dialing with bluetooth? or is it bluetooth specific?
My Camera and video aren’t responding.
The froyo update broke my Swype keyboard but I just uninstalled/reinstalled it using AppBrain and it was back up and running like a champ.
Aside from that I haven’t noticed any problems, only glorious improvements.
You know what? Us eager beavers just found a major problem in HTC and the update process. So because we weren’t afraid and installed the Froyo the hard way we now know we all may have trouble when next update drops. If we can’t go from .3 to .6 without a patch…my God, HTC released the early Froyo, then pulled it because they screwed up. In my opinion they should have cleaned up the mess they made before they updated the rest of the EVOs. My friend has the .6 Froyo and his EVO eats battery even faster than my. 3 Froyo. We work together. Both phones idle his loses 5 percent. An hour more.
Same for me. Since installing the OTA update, it begins to turn on like normal and then the screen quickly blinks twice and it closes…any suggestions? I didn’t have any difficulty installing the update and I didn’t do anything apart from the norm….
Update: Somehow, the “LED Light” application by “picolyl” was interfering with the software. I just uninstalled it, and now my camera works great.

Did HTC pull this? Today is the first I’ve heard of this and it’s not working. “There are no updates available for your phone.”
DAAAMMMMNNN YOU HTC!
I have version .6 and it sucks. Tasks killers wont kill YouTube and internet. YouTube videos won’t play, I keep getting a message problem with playing video. Keyboard lags. Internet is slower. Froyo sucks.
My camera takes fuzzy pictures now to. And videos I have a had recorded on my phone before Froyo play choppy now on my phone.
